It’s been a very long time since the Bakélite Theatre Company gave up the idea of doing things the easy way…
The company’s shows come about through experimenting. We see our creations as a tribute to inventiveness and ingenuity, open to everyone, where the strings are visible and where the audience becomes part of what’s happening on stage.
It’s about playing with ordinary, everyday objects, whether “Made in Taiwan” or “Made in Brittany”, which may have no particular appeal at first but which gain an evocative power when put to another use.
Located in Rennes since its birth in 2005, the Bakélite Theatre Company is one of two long-running object theatres at the Théâtre Lillico. Run by Olivier Rannou, a self-taught actor and director, Bakélite now has four shows in its repertoire: L’affaire Poucet, Braquage (Stick-Up), La Galère (The Galley) and La Caravane de l’Horreur (The Caravan of Horror).
Bakélite’s shows are open to everybody (usually from 6 or 8 years old), and we particularly focus on families - whether a kid or an adult, there’s something for everyone to enjoy together.
