Transmission
From initiation to creation in object theatre: projects to invent
In 2023, La Bakélite accumulated 200 hours of artistic and cultural education with audiences in Brittany and beyond. These transmission sessions are, for audiences and artists alike, moments of revelation, understanding and perspective on what object theatre really is.
These projects, aimed at children, adults and families, can take the form of short introductory workshops or longer residencies culminating in a performance. In each case, the goal is to transmit the language of object theatre, then create scenes and stories around themes linked to the company's shows — or not.

INTRODUCTIONFrom age 7 Starting from a collection of objects, participants discover the language of object theatre — playing with symbolism, mechanisms, appearance… to tell stories, reinvent tales, create trailers… Object theatre offers a playful language where everyone can invent, narrate, and express themselves. This introductory workshop can take place before or after any of the company's shows. |
DISCOVERY & creationFrom age 12 Through practice, participants discover object theatre. Drawing on the experimental language of object theatre, they explore a chosen theme — related or not to the company's shows. Together, they uncover what objects tell us about that theme. They play with truth and fiction, fairy tales and news stories, universal narratives and intimate ones. They invent metaphors, make tabletop cinema with a handful of objects, become storytellers, performers, sound designers… to collectively create a performance. |
WORKSHOPFrom age 18, for amateurs or initiated participants These residency-style transmission sessions are an opportunity to explore the company's artistic world, strongly inspired by cinema. Olivier Rannou diverts and transforms materials and objects to create surprising scenography and dramaturgy that embraces adventure and comic situations. The workshop also offers a chance to try object theatre through collective exercises. This format has been experienced on several occasions, including in March 2023 at the Drak Theater in Hradec Králové (as part of an international meeting of art school students), and in April 2024 at the Friche Belle de Mai in Marseille, a workshop organised by the Théâtre de Cuisine. Both sessions were co-facilitated with puppeteer Ariel Doron. ➔ photo Gaudeamus -theatrum - at Drak Theater |

PUBLIC REHEARSALS, post-show discussions AND ROUND TABLESFor everyone Simple moments of encounter and exchange are offered during rehearsals or after performances. The Bakélite artists, in post-show discussions, answer questions from audience members about the creative process, dramaturgy, or object manipulation. At rehearsals, audiences get a chance to watch a show being invented and tinkered into existence. The Bakélite artists also take part in round tables to share "their object theatre". ➔ photo: round table / "company portrait" at MIMA 2022, Mirepoix. Hosted by Mathieu Dochtermann on 6 August 2022.
